Our Philosophy
Our core philosophy revolves around three key principles:
Respect: We believe in treating each other with respect inside and outside the dojo. Respect for oneself, fellow students, instructors, and the art itself is fundamental.
Discipline: Martial arts instill discipline, focus, and perseverance. Students develop mental and physical strength through consistent practice, enhancing their overall well-being.
Community: We are more than just a school; we are a community. Families come together to learn, train, and support one another. Our dedicated instructors nurture each student's potential.
Our Logo
Our logo embodies the essence of our school:
Ensō Circle: The circular brush stroke defines the continuous journey of self-improvement. It symbolizes enlightenment, strength, and unity.
Our Instructors
Our instructors, all homegrown and promoted from within, genuinely care about each student's journey. Having once been in the same position as our students, they emphasize the "3 E's" - encouragement, engagement, and enforcement - to foster vital communication, organization, and problem-solving skills for life.
Our Styles
Tang Soo Do (TSD)
Tang Soo Do is a traditional Korean martial art that emphasizes striking techniques, forms (katas), and self-defense. Traditionally, the art combines elements of Shotokan Karate, Subak, Taekkyon, and Kung Fu.
American Tang Soo Do was formed in 1966 by Chuck Norris as a combination of Moo Duk Kwan-style Tang Soo Do, Judo, and Shotokan Karate, popularizing the art in the United States and advancing a more well-rounded approach to martial arts training
Here at AMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing basics are also seamlessly woven into the TSD program for a well-rounded martial arts skill set. Our experienced instructors guide students through a curriculum that builds a balance of artistic, realistic, and often underdeveloped internal martial arts skills. Confidence, strength, inner calm, mobility, and resiliency are just a few benefits our students can expect from regular training.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was first developed in 1925 by Brazilian brothers Carlos, Oswaldo, Gastão Jr., and Hélio Gracie. Carlos was taught a hybrid of traditional Japanese Jujitsu and Kodokan Judo by a traveling Japanese judoka, Mitsuyo Maeda, in 1917.
BJJ eventually evolved into its own defined combat sport through the innovations, practices, and adaptations of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, becoming an essential martial art for modern MMA.
BJJ is a ground-based martial art that focuses on leverage, technique, and positional control. It’s an excellent choice for self-defense and practical combat skills. Here at AMA our Ol’Skool Grapluh (OGBJJ) classes cater to beginners and advanced practitioners alike, providing a safe, fun, and encouraging environment to learn this rapidly growing and practical art.
Confidence, mental fortitude, mobility, improved fitness, and rapid problem-solving skills are just a few benefits of regular training. Designed for the smaller and/or weaker person to defend themselves against a larger or stronger opponent, BJJ is a must for students who want to prove their self-defense skills work by safely pressure-testing them on the mat!
Qi Gong (Chi Kung)
Often called the “Mother of Tai Chi”, Qi Gong is a Chinese system of simple physical exercises and breathing techniques to promote deep balance within the body. Qigong involves using exercises to optimize energy within the body, mind, and spirit, with the goal of improving and maintaining health and well-being. Here at AMA, Qi Gong basics are also seamlessly woven into the TSD program, exploring the internal side of martial arts training for a well-rounded martial arts and improved mental & physical health.
